Learning at Home with Mrs. Sawden.
Here are some ideas for working on music at home. Remember that these are just suggestions. It is up to you and your parents what you work on right now. The health of you and your family is what is most important.
Creating, Making, and Presenting
You can use technology to help you create your own original music.
1. Create music using GarageBand. This is a free app on Apple devices.
2. Create music using BandLab. This is a free online music creation tool. You can join a classroom I have set up for our school edu.bandlab.com/join/ww4wira Click on the little folder in the top right hand corner to start a new project. Rename the project and explore.
3. Create music any number of free apps you can find on your device.
You can also create your own music without using technology.
1. Write a song using a traditional instrument.
2. If you don't have access to an instrument, create rhythms and/or melodies using things you find around the house. Make sure to ask permission before using something that doesn't belong to you.
In either case, I challenge to write down your music using either traditional notation (staff, rhythms, and notes) or non-traditional notation (stuff you make up to communicate your thoughts).
If you have an instrument at home that you don't know how to play, now is a good time to learn! There are many great YouTube videos to help you get started. If you already know how to play, PRACTICE!!! Learn a new song. Teach someone in your home how to play it.
Listening and Responding
Check out this PowerPoint about an Orchestral Suite called "The Planets" by Gustav Holst. There are links in the presentation to videos of performances on YouTube. When you are listening to the performances pay attention to how it makes you feel and what it makes you think of. You can draw a picture or write a story about the music you hear. Try to name the instruments you see as well.

Now is the time to explore new music! Listen to music you wouldn't normally listen to. Get suggestions from family and friends. For each new song you listen to, write a short review: what did you like about it? what did you not like about it? If you find something you really like, share it with others. Spread the joy of music.
